Top 10 Oddest Concept Cars

10. Ford Airstream

Imagine the lovechild of an Airstream trailer and a Ford Escape and you have the Ford Airstream concept car. This beauty was unveiled at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show. In addition to the reflective paint and red accents, the Airstream comes with clamshell doors and futuristic egg shell seats. For the futuristic hippie, a 360-degree screen in the back seat comes in with built-in lighting modes including Lava Lamp.

The Airstream is powered by a plug-in hydrogen hybrid fuel-cell that is able to function at sub-freezing temperatures.

9. Mazda Taiki

Based on the Nagare (or "flow") design series, the Mazda Taiki looks like a mean machine with training wheels. From behind, it is easy to tell that the design was inspired by the flowing robes of a mythical Japanese celestial maiden.

8. Fiat Truckster

The Fiat Truckster is designed to be a flexible use commercial vehicle. It's really just a super-tricked out version of the existing Ducato design with LED headlights, a crazy spoiler, hydraulically controlled gullwing doors, and smoked glass windows.

7. GM Runabout

Ever wanted a car with two built-in shopping carts? Then the GM Runabout, a mid-1960's concept car, is for you! In addition to the two shopping carts, the Runabout was designed to carry two passengers on its three wheels.

6. Magna Steyr MILA Concept

The MILA Concept is a mid-engine, single seat sports car that runs on natural gas. The body was designed to be very lightweight and rigid, resulting in improved control and safety.

5. Honda Puyo

The Honda Puyo looks like a cloud that you can drive. The body has no discernible edges and the canopy is almost 100% glass. There's not even a steering wheel; it has been replaced by a joystick.

The design team worked towards having the car express a sensation of "touching the vehicle's soft body."

4. Ferrari 512 S Modulo Pininfarina Concept

The 1970 Ferrari Modulo Pininfarina looks like a UFO on wheels. The roof slides forward to permit entry into the 3 foot tall car. Not the most practical car, the Pininfarina cannot make any turns due to the covered wheels.

3. Nissan Pivo2

The Nissan Pivo2 is similar in design to the Honda Puyo. It is a parallel parker's dream car as it features a body that can rotate and wheels that can pivot to allow lateral movement. Perhaps the most interesting feature is that the car comes equipped with a talking, severed robot head attached to the dashboard.

2. ConvAIRCAR

The ConvAIRCAR was an ill-fated concept car/plane that crashed on one of its earliest flights in 1947. The idea was that a driver could transition from driving on the road to flying in the sky without changing vehicles. Simply attach the flight unit (which included the propeller) at your local airstrip and take off.

The ConvAIRCAR weighed only 725 pounds and achieved 45 miles per gallon (on the road).

1. Toyota I-Real

We're not sure this qualifies as a concept car. It might be better described as a concept wheelchair or an improved Segway. At "high" speeds (it can reach 18.6 mph), the I-Real leans back to increase stability.

Unfortunately, there is no on-board toilet.
